The Williamson Street Art Center conducts artist-in-residency programs and
community art projects with schools, community centers, and other civic
organizations .
We specialize
in large-scale mural projects and fabric/ found art 3-D figure workshops. We bring enthusiasm and a
sense of inclusion to all participants.

New murals at Prairie Phoenix Academy & Centro Hispano are being planned -
“The
History of Willy Street in the 70's - Changing the World through Art”
mural was painted with community members and installed at the Social Justice Center,
1202 Williamson St, on the Few St side of the building in Madison,WI.
You can listen to interviews of the artist, poets, musicians and activists who
lived and worked in the Willy St area during the 1970’s when artists and
activists tried to change the world. Archival art from 70's Willy St artists
accompany their stories.
This project was funded through the
MG&E Foundation, the Wisconsin Arts Board, the Dane County Cultural Affairs Commission,
the Madison Arts Commission and various Willy St businesses and organizations.

- Centro Hispano Artist-in-Residency: 9 Interior Murals - We hope to start
exterior murals!
This mural in

Centro Hispano in Madison, WI. It was painted by West High School SAIL
students, UW Educational Outreach Technology & Art students, and community
members. It was funded by the Wisconsin Arts Baord and UW Educational Outreach.

"Graduation Celebration" mural was painted by community members and funded by
the Wisconsin Arts Board. Murals in the child care area and the kitchen were

The Artist-in-Residency at Freedom Elementary School in Freedom, WI included
soft sculptures with K-2 students, found art sculptures with 3rd graders and 3
murals in the cafeteria with 4th & 5th graders - 730 students in all and was
funded by the parent group.

School of Alternative Resources - alternative high school students and
community members. It is

Sun Prairie Civic Theatre rehearsal barn in Sun Prairie, WI and covers 2 sides of the barn.

Sun Prairie Youth and Family Commission, the United Way “By Youth for Youth”program
and the Dane County Cultural Affairs Commission.
This project was designed to further the mission of the Respite Center - a
crisis center for kids in Madison, WI. It was conducted at the
Overture Center for the Arts by volunteers and was funded by the Respite Center.
This mural was painted by
School of Alternative Resources - alternative high school students -
and community members. It is
located atAngell Fireman's Park in Sun Prairie, WI (home of the Sun
Prairie Corn Festival) and covers all 4 sides of the building.
It was funded by
the Sun Prairie Youth & Family Commission and the United Way “By Youth for Youth”
program.
This project was designed to further the mission of the Respite Center - a
crisis center for kids in Madison, WI. It was conducted at the
Overture Center for the Arts during the International Festival. Volunteers
helped children and famiies make soft sculptures. The project was funded by the Respite Center.
A parent funded this residency for 2 classes at Eagle School in Madison, WI.
"Welcome" mural was painted by
Prairie View Middle School - English as a Second Language students in Sun Prairie, WI.
The ESLteacher funded it through a grant from the
United Way “By Youth for Youth” program.
"Conservation" mural was painted byTomahawk Elementary School students,
parents and teachers in Tomahawk, WI and was funded by the parent
teacher group.
"Our Community" is a series of murals painted by
Lakeview Elementary School students and community members in Madison, WI and was funded by the Wisconsin Arts Board.

hopeful star.”

Nine 6’x6’ fabric collages made from artifacts collected from more than 130 individual, families
and groups, were sewn together at community sewing bees. The Wisconsin Arts Board, Dane County Cultural Affairs
Commission and
Madison Citiarts funded the project.
2003-4 Wil-Mar Neighborhood Center Community Art Project: Mural
“Celebrating the Heart of a Neighborhood” commemorates Wil-Mar Neighborhood Center's 30th
anniversary. It was funded by the
Wisconsin Arts Board and the Dane County Cultural Affairs Commission.
"Pathways of Connection" is a series of murals painted by students and parents at Lowell Elementary School
in Madison, WI. Funding was provided by the Dane County Cultural Affairs Commission.
1993 Madison Ice Arena Community Art Project: Mural
"The History of Skating" is a mural covering all 4 walls of the studio rink at
the Madison Ice Arena. It was painted by a combination of work-experience youth
and figure skaters. It was funded by the Dane County Cultural Affairs Commission and Madison Citiart.
“Sharon’s dedication to this project has provided the city of Madison with a
historical perspective of local skaters in an ice arena setting. The final product has been extremely
well received by everyone who has seen it, and many are genuinely awe-struck. It is simply that good.”
